I think God has a different viewpoint. He says if one even thinks about another woman (man) lustfully, s/he sins.
If he invites lustful thoughts, etc. then it is acting. Being visited by feelings is not something done wilfully, and cannot be sinful. Christ speaks of "committing adultery in his mind", -- he is describing an act of mind, not an inclination.
A little more than thinking about, but yes, you can sin by lusting.
The point was that this would be sinful regardless whether homo or hetero.
No, it's actually "look upon a woman with a view to desire her has committed adultery already" is what the original Greek text says.
It's not the desire itself but the object of that desire that is adulterous (coveting someone else's spouse). Not looking once, but twice, three times, or more...going back for more of the wrong desire is sin, even if that desire is manifested by looks, or expressed only in thought/fantasy.
The Greek word used is epiqumew which is the same word used in the rest of the NT, such as "with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into." [1 Pet 1:12]
Surely the angels here are not committing the sin although the word used is exactly the same word used by +Matthew.
True, but a heterosexual or a homosexual who persistently takes each thought captive and refuses to "go there," even in their minds . . . imho, is not sinning.
Abstaining from thought sins and active sins is a discipline, certainly--evidently one that trains us to be overcomers.
I suppose one could SAY that overeaters, alcoholics, homosexuals, playboy studs, workaholics, netaholoics, . . . the list is endless . . . are all grossly sinning just to notice food, a beer ad, a beefy guy, a shapely gal, work to do, websites to scan, . . .
but I don't think God sees it that way.
Feeding in our mind and rumminating on possibilities with such sin options is another matter.
