Must I remind you that the issue was whether God demanded a sacrifice, not whether He sacrificed (did a wholy thing) Himself for us, out of love, a gift indeed, not ab obligation. The Church never believd God demanded sacrifice. The Church always believed God willingly did it. Not because He was obliged, but because He so desired.

The hole is getting deeper.

"No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father." -- John 10:18

The Church never believd God demanded sacrifice.

"This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." -- 1 John 4:10

All this tells me is that Christ received the command from His Father. He is begotten of the Father and what is Father's is His too. He says that He has the authority and the authority, like everything else, comes from the Father.

It doesn't say that God demanded sacrifice.
