The very translator of your vulgate was then anathematized at Trent. If it were such a settled issue, I doubt Jerome, who actually lived at the time and was in good favor with the church, would have made the statement that the church did not view them as canonical. He didn't say "my opinion is that they aren't canonical." He stated that the church didn't view them as canonical. So, the choices are a)the translator of the Vulgate lied and it went unnoticed or b)Trent declared the books canonical though they were included in the vulgate by Jerome's admission as edifying reading, not good for doctrine.

St. Jerome did what a good Catholic should: he submitted his personal view to the Church and accepted her inerrant judgement. The Vulgate appeared with the deuterocanons. Hippo/Carthage confrimed the Canon. Trent merely reaffirmed it. Luther messed with the canon as he decided to play church. So much for the sola scriptura pretense.
