I would protest that "being God" very much involves the fact that He is our Savior, Giver of Life and All That Is Good.
The concept of altruism has no place among worshipers of the God of Our Salvation, the God who has given us life and every good that we enjoy.
His name/nature as Savior, as Life- and Good-Giver cannot be separated from His name/nature as God.
My worship of Him cannot be separated from the fact that He has saved me, that my life and all that I enjoy are from Him Alone.
Altruism, in the sense you have entered it here, is simply and actually inconceivable as part of my relationship as a worshiper to this God. Amen!
And what if you were born poor, hungry, abused, and had nothing to enjoy? Would he still be your God and Savior? Would you consider yourself saved?
Would you still say "all I have is from God?" Would you still thank Him for knowing Him? Would you accept your miserable state as His will?
The whole concept of having been saved is a contentious, yet feel-good, perversion of +Pauline teaching the Protestants and Baptists latch on to.
Such "done deal" religion does nothing for the spirit, to lead you to die unto yourself and diminish our overblown yet fallen ego. To the contrary, it leads to spiritual pride, which is as contrary to Christ's teaching as it could get. It's a man-made religion and it puts man and his pride, his ego, his "feel-goodnees" in the front row; it's all about man, not God.
And, FK, what makes you a servant of God? How are you "serving" God? By works?
