Whatever thing I ask my friend to pray about is what I am also praying about. If that thing is within the will of God, then I know it will be granted, no matter how many people are praying for me. If it is not, then it will not. It appears you have no good reason to ask him to pray then, as the outcome is predetermined. But St. Paul asked for others's prayers, just to give one example.

Scripture commands us to pray, that is all the reason we need. Prayer is also always good for the one praying, regardless of the answer.
