*If you took the time to undertake a climatological study, you'd find that Europe in the 16th Century was damp, VERY damp. Luther would have been difficult to ignite.
The Gospel of John, Chapter Six, speaks of the the Body and Blood of Jesus as real food and real blood. So, your disagreements are with your Creator, not me. Transubstantiation is our explanation of how that Miracle happens. Miracles can be only partially understood. Purgatory is in both old and new testament... 1 cor 3...If any man's work burn, he shall suffer loss; but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.
Acts 5:1-10. Peter rebukes a fellow "believer" and his wife for listening to Satan and attempting to deceive God. Ananias and his wife fall down dead. Certainly the Church is shown to have power of temporal judgement over those who profess faith and yet act to undermine the Church.
By the way, it was the secular leaders at the time who sought capital punishment for disloyalty to the Church, not the Church itself. The Church simply excommunicated those who could not accept doctrine. A fine point... but a point nonetheless.
