Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly, a staunch Roman Catholic who is in charge of pushing the regulations through parliament Well, when her job's on the line, Ms Kelly's about as "staunch" a Catholic as Ted Kennedy or John Kerry.

It found deep-set public opposition to new laws that will compel businesses, charities and churches to give equal treatment to homosexuals. If this were the US, the churches and their charities would get an exemption, but the churches would be silent as their parishoners' businesses and non-confessional organizations were forced to comply with the regulations. I wonder how the all-or-nothing policies in the UK will end.

In some sense, the pagans who run the government in the UK are doing the Christian communities of Britain a favor. It seems that the creeping persecution is making actual Christians stand up for what is right.

Perhaps the liberal govenrment in London has finally stumbled upon a way to bring Catholic and Protestant together in Northern Ireland/Ulster.

But the Church of England has said they mean priests could be sued for refusing to bless same-sex unions and Catholics say they will close their adoption agencies rather than give children to gay couples. The warning means Dr Nazir-Ali believes the new gay rights laws are a threat to the Church of England's continued influence in inner cities and deprived areas of the country.
Despite its internal arguments and financial troubles, the CofE has been widely praised in recent years for its efforts to maintain its presence and its charity efforts in the toughest parts of cities.
I'm afraid this is the point, folks. It's hardly a coincidence that these laws will force religous agencies out of providing social services. People who favor these laws want that to happen; they want to destroy the influence of religious organizations in the public sphere. They want only government to do these things.
