They seem like lesser gods to me.

From a Catholic POV, there's no such thing as a "lesser god". I mean such a thing philosophically can't exist. "You either is one, or you ain't."

Angels are (metaphysically) created persons like us, but they have created angelic natures instead of human ones. If you imagine a continuum of being, there's things, animals, humans, angels ... and then an infinite distance until you get to God.

I certainly wouldn't deny a person their beliefs. I've just briefed of mine.
