Queen Elizabeth prevented a real disaster from happening when the time came for the appointment of Dr. Carey. Another candidate was preferred who would have been such a disaster for Christendom (not just the Anglican Church). The Queen, using a power a monarch has rarely used, chose the more Anglo-Catholic of the two gentlemen.
I know many do not like Dr. Carey, but as a Catholic looking in, I appreciate the way he kept the damn from breaking in a number of areas in the UK. Mine is surely a minority view, but I think history will be kinder to Dr. Carey than at the present.
