The Church in this Diocese accedes to the Constitution and Canons of The Episcopal Church, and recognizes the authority of the General Convention of said Church provided that no action of General Convention which is contrary to Holy Scripture and the Apostolic Teaching of the Church shall be of any force or effect in this Diocese.Apparently our fidelity to Holy Writ and the teaching of the Apostles is troublesome to the new powers-about-to-be. Mr. Beers concludes his letter stating should your diocese decline to take that step, (removing language that can be read as cutting against an "unqualified" accession) the Presiding Bishop will have to consider what sort of action she must take in order to bring your diocese into compliance. Is it just me or did the temperature just dip a degree?
"Priests of my father's generation, at their ordination, promised to "be ready, with all faithful diligence, to banish and drive away from the Church all erroneous and strange doctrines contrary to God's Word.""
Very Orthodox sentiment.
I suppose "Booth" is Chancellor Beers's maiden name?
"I suppose "Booth" is Chancellor Beers's maiden name?"
Snicker, snicker.
Nah, he was disowned by his family.
Only question is whether it was the William Booths or the John Wilkes Booths . . .
LOL!
We were informed of the PB's letter at Bible Class Tuesday.
The teacher thought it was about time someone brought these troublesome Bishops to hand. He also thought that Bishop Stanton (our Bishop) would be receiving a similar letter soon.
I thought she sounded like the worst kind of biddy.
One gets the impression that people of her ilk have wanted to get rid of those conservatives for a long time, and, well, guess what, they seem to be succeeding.
I've been reading these articles here for two years now, place after place after place brought under the same pressure. There was a time, early on, when I was seriously excited to see the indignation, and expected to see firm, unflinching, uncompromising resistance using all means.
Instead, I note that the bad guys always win in the Episcopalian Church. People LEAVE, but they never, ever, ever fight.
And by fighting I don't mean complain and moan and yell. I mean barring the door. I mean having security guards physically toss invading bishops out of buildings and force a full-on litigation.
So, the temperature has dipped?
And before that, there were the Connecticut priests...
And before that, there were the gay ordinations...etc.
So, what is going to happen THIS time, in THIS place?
Episcopalians will whine. And Episcopalians will obey.
That's what you always do, as far as I can see.
Some will leave.
But nobody will ever fight.
Actually fight.
Actually physically toss an apostate bishop out of an orthodox church, with security guards, and say "We do not recognize your episcopacy, sir. You are a tresspasser. Get off our land." If s/he won't go, have security drag him out by the arms.
It will never happen.
The new "Chancellor" of wherever has spoken.
And in the end will win.
That's what always happens at the end of all of these threads.
It's like reading French military history, except that the French sometimes win battles.
Sorry to say it, but it's so.
And it's dreadfully sad.

The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Carey of Clifton, has been banned from one of the oldest cathedrals in Britain after accusations that he has become an instrument of disunity.Lord Carey, who has become a champion of orthodoxy in the Anglican Church since stepping down from the top job in 2002, was due to speak at Bangor Cathedral, North Wales, in February. The Dean of Bangor, the Very Rev Alun Hawkins, is understood to have imposed the unprecedented ban because he feels that Lord Carey has become a divisive force and has been disloyal to his successor, Dr Rowan Williams, who was born in Wales.
Relations have been strained since Lord Carey blocked the appointment of Dr Williams as Bishop of Southwark because he believed that he was too liberal on the gay issue.
Lord Careys lecture, one of four he was due to deliver in Wales, had been organised by the Church Mission Society. John Martin, of the society, said about the Dean: He felt George had become a factor of disunity and of disloyalty to Rowan Williams, a divisive force. He also questioned whether inviting George Carey to speak was a sign that the society was lurching to the right. We pointed out that in fact we have had a very balanced series of lecturers.
"New York has spoken, the case is closed!"
After 500 years, do the Episcopalians finally have a Pope?
(Since she's female, does that make her a "Mope"? "Mape"? "Habemus Papam ... er, Mamam ... Mapam?!?")
Mope Kate the First: not just a "first among equals," she will "take action" "to bring your diocese into compliance"! (Resistance is futile! You will be comply or else!)
Of course, it's regrettable that she's a heretic and all that, but that's a mere quibble. Isn't it? :-0
Isn't it funny how liberals (no matter what church or other entity you're talking about) are all "tolerance" and "diversity" when their on the outside, but once they take power, they demand absolute obedience, and are the epitome of rigid, boot-stomping-on-your-face, uniformity?
Well, of course THAT SORT will be barred.
Note how the bad guys don't flinch from using physical force to enforce their will.
Good guys have to fight.
At the last Supper, Jesus reversed his earlier decree to the apostles to carry no sword. He said that now they would need to buy swords. Things are not to dagger points in the Anglican Communion, but certainly when these bishops come and just physically take over parishes they should be opposed by uniformed security guards who will physically grab the invaders by the nape of the neck and physically drag them off the property. Most of these liberals are milquetoast pantywaists. Offer a little PHYSICAL resistance to them, like Jesus in the Temple, and they will NOT actually fight. They will run away and try to litigate.
In which case you pull out all of the stops and you exhaust their finances in endless litigation, - with YOU in piossphydsical possession of the property until the bitter end. You may lose some cases on the law, but then again, you may be able to get jury trials or sympathetic judges and WIN. One thing is certain, no sherriff's department is going to make that call and just side with the bishop, not without a court order. You physically hurl the bastards off the property withj uniformed security guards, and they won't be coming back with the police until AFTER they've won the case in court on appeal (IF they do)...and spent a fortune. And you can leave them a shell by that point.
Fight the Devil.
Tolerance for me but not for thee.
OOOOOOOHHHH!!!! Am I envious!
Thank you! I can't think of a higher compliment to my verbal facility.
Sionnsar isn't Episcopalian. He's a "continuing Anglican," which I sort of understood what that was at one point, but I lost it. Anyway, they believe in God.
Man, you hit the nail on the head. Awesome post.
