How can Catholics refuse to even try to bring this treasure to the Jews?

After centuries of being pilloried for trying to "convert" the jews - the church is taking a time out for public relations. But as JPII said - the Jews have their own covenant with God. That was his way of saying - lay off and leave well enough alone.

Are you saying that the New Covenant is not for the Jews? Did all the Apostles, who were Jewish, follow the wrong covenant??

I have experience that went the opposite direction: I was born Catholic, attended Catholic schools, memorized the catechism, stuck thorns in my thumbs for penance while hoping the Virgin Mary would appear to me, and listened to a lot of hatred drivel doled out by the school Monseigneur who molested me for two years. I then attended a Protestant boarding school with 4 years of bible study; I wrote my thesis as a senior on why I wanted to become Jewish ( I considered Judaism beautiful and pure.) I converted by mickvah, married a wonderful Jewish boy, and have been delighted with the symbolism, spirituality, meaning, and intelligence the religion has given my life. Thanks, I don't accept Jesus as my personal trainer.
