When Democratic Party leaders "found God in the 2004 exit polls," as Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne Jr. likes to say, no one expected instant results. Many of the party's early efforts to attract religious voters, after all, were scattershot and not a little awkward. No one knew quite what the "faith staffer"a new breed of legislative aidewas supposed to do, and random-seeming insertions of Bible verses into floor speeches came off as Tourette's syndrome for Democrats. In the longer run, though, the new focus on forming relationships with religious communities and voters has been the right move for a party that had essentially limited its religious outreach to black churches. Democratic campaign trainings now smartly include tips for communicating with Catholic voters. Candidates are starting to appear on religious radio outlets. And Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean has even stopped saying things to intentionally antagonize evangelicals.

The DNC now issues talking points to indocrinate Democrats who are still Catholics why the Pope is wrong about abortion and homosexuality.
I have often enquired Catholic Democrats how they rationalize Catholicism and abortion, euthanasia and homosexuality. I have yet to get an answer that is nothing but a dodge around the question.
They talk to me about social justice and the evil of war. Morons.

I recall hearing some blather about a "covenant". Do you suppose somebody at DNC headquarters has been reading Meredith Kline?
Yeah, right. It comes off to my ear as clueless and "tone deaf".
Same deal as when Devilcrats say they've changed and aren't gun grabbers any more. They've got decades of counter examples, decades of low level war against us, and I will not believe it until they prove it. Walk the walk.
How can a Catholic vote Democrat? I'm Catholic and don't understand this. The Democrat party no longer stands for the reasons that Catholics once voted for them. They don't even really do anything to help the poor anymore except to perpetuate the cycle of poverty with a Welfare state.
I'm of the philosophy "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." Democrats keep people IN poverty by encouraging them to be dependent on the State instead of being self sufficient.
It's okay to give a hand to someone to get them back on their feet, but to keep them in a state of endless dependency on the government to survive is also morally wrong. Why do they do this? Simple. Votes! They would sell their souls for them. They already have really, it's belongs to Planned Parenthood, GLBT Rights and the ACLU.
