I did not say that attention to the scriptures precludes devotion to prayer. I think perhaps you may be assuming an either/or where I never posited anything of the sort.

While it's hard for me to speak for Kolokotronis, I suspect this to be the case. As I understand it, his Orthodox "phronema" (is that the right word, K?) is quite different from the practice in much of Protestantism, and to me it seems likely he assumed the absence here was significant.
