That's ridiculous. The Church of England was already in its death throes (maybe now we know why). A couple years ago, a friend and I visited a huge Anglican Church in Liverpool. A service was going on . . . there were more people in the choir than in the pews. Then we went across town to the Catholic St Patrick's (St Paddy's wigwam, as they call it), which holds upwards of 2,000 people. It was standing-room only.

I appreciate your observation. What a foolish paper he once wrote. While he does in fact see the difference between his "paper" and the actual structure of authority, there is no forgiveness to be given for his foolishness as he, in fact, has not for a moment suggested his paper was in error. Is a grand coup in the makes? I don't know.
Addendum. In 1994, the Church of England enacted "preferential quotas" in re appointment of priests. Many male priests were tossed out on their ears so that female priests could have their positions. I'm seeing the ploy play-up again. This time, for openly gay priests. The "policy" came down after the massive burnings (arson) at Windsor Castle. Fascists, yes even those wearing the robes of the Holy Order, can do grave wrong, as history has shown time and time again. Were Rowan Williams serious about his move, he'd do more than merely posit that gays should "correct" their behaviors, IMHO.
Its about time! And its about the Bible -- but really, it shouldn't be about the numbers.
