Jack Iker has no illusions:
The request for alternate primatial oversight (APO) is likely to be a significant topic of discussion during a meeting that the Archbishop of Canterbury has asked Virginia Bishop Peter Lee and Southwest Florida Bishop John Lipscomb to convene next month in New York City, according to Fort Worth Bishop Jack L. Iker who said he was in regular contact with Lambeth Palace prior to the Aug. 18 statement announcing the meeting
Obviously I have my reservations about how productive a meeting like this can be, Bishop Iker told The Living Church. I think it is significant that I have heard nothing from either the Presiding Bishop or Katharine Jefferts Schori since General Convention. To me this indicates that he [Archbishop Williams] is trying to respond to a pastoral situation and they are trying as hard as they can to ignore it.
This is why I dont expect anything other than a desire to yammer some more to emerge from this meeting. I dont think Griswold or Schori will be able to make themselves admit what everybody already knows. That the split in the Episcopal Church has already happened.
Will Dr. Williams, through his representative, tell Frank and Kate what both dont want to hear? That ECUSAs official response to the Windsor Report was unacceptable and that until such time as the situation changes, Katharine Jefferts Schori will not receive an invitation to the next primates meeting?
He might. Although his own beliefs are more in line with ECUSAs, Rowan Williams knows, as they say, where the votes are. Faced with the choice of a strong, vigorous Anglican Communion without the Americans or a weak, ineffectual Anglican Communion with them, I think it is clear where my gracious lord of Canterburys sympathies lie.
Vid, here's your pattern and model of what a bishop should be, in trouble up to his neck.
LOL As we Christinas like to say, BINGO!!!!
