Who said the republicans embrace divorce?

He didn't mention any party, and he didn't mention any candidate for public office. Smart man. Smart bishop. Because everybody knows what he means.

Woo Hooo !!!

Now THERE is something you don't see coming from a U.S. Catholic Bishop every day!! Good for him!! This guy better watch out if the democrats take over in the near future. He could find himself under investigation, and muzzled by Hillary and the IRS.

I hope we see MORE Bishops saying things like this, but alas, I believe that most are mamby-pamby wimpy liberals, or at worst, militantly opposed to his viewpoint. I'll bet Cardinal Mahoney would like to don a pair of brass knuckles and have a "private talk" with this Bishop!! With all the "tolerant" liberals "out and about" nowadays, I hope the good Bishop is wearing a kevlar vest whenever he goes out in public.

Thanks for the ping. Good to know we have at least one bishop who's figured it out.

The Republicans only embrace contraception and divorce, so I guess that makes them the lesser of two evils?

When it comes to modern American politics, "the lesser of two evils" is an expression for children. This is especially true in an election year that could bring us Speaker Pelosi. One party wants to protect the Republic and stand for justice, and on a few issues they are not (since they are an American party, not an American Catholic party) 100% in agreement with Vatican doctrine. The other wants to kill 1.3 million children a year by horrible means, give gays the veto over religious freedom and basically run the whole country down the garbage disposal.

Me, I have no trouble figuring out which side to be on in that struggle. How about you?

The Republicans are culpable in killing, too, especially the disabled and elderly,

I'm under no illusion that the GOP is a perfect pro-life party, but I think you need to explain that remark.

They just don't get the media attention of the left-wing bishops.

Question seconded. And in post 16, Aliska accuses the GOP of killing the elderly and disabled.

One of my favorite bishops.

If I lived only a few miles to the northwest, he'd be mine.

I doubt he cares. I'm sure he's chosen to walk the path of Wurmbrand (and Paul, and Peter and Stephen...) if necessary.

Well there is no doubt that many republicans have gotten divorces. Just as many Catholics and evangelicals and Mormons, etc. have. But I don't recall the GOP embracing feminist agenda or legislation that encourages divorce.

The bishop's column is excellent, but it makes no reference to either political party. One of its comments seems especially worth repeating for some on this forum:
Those who have killed millions under their mother’s hearts cannot be expected to balk at a mere few thousand killed in Afghanistan, in Iraq, in Somalia, in Darfur, in Bosnia, in Madrid, in London, in Baghdad, in Beirut, in Washington, in New York. The violence of abortion coarsens the lives of all of us.

Can't you just drive up to a church in that diocese to have him as your bishop?

I concur 100%. I would add that the feminists hate the GOP so much that when Schwarzennegger was running in the CA recall every feminist org in the country was working feverishly for Bustamente. The feminists know that no matter how pro-abort some individual Repubs might be, there is no substitute for the real thing when it comes to killing, buggering, de-fathering and dumbing down America's kids.

And the fembots are perfectly willing to put up with a philandering, rapist like Clinton because he's a left winger. Or the woman hating terrorists because they hate our current CIC even more.

I don't feel like explaining it. It will just start another food fight over old business on this forum.

I ran across, in one parish, prayers of the faithful with the intention that “we pray for those who work and demonstrate for the cause of life and the unborn, the aged and the defected, that they may persevere in spite of the ridicule they receive sometimes, even from pastors and priests.” I shudder to think that might be true. We know from the sad experience of recent years that some Catholics (even among priests) are so warped and perverted from their Catholic vocation, that they are capable of enormities. But, they should know that it was no prelate or bishop or pope that said, “Suffer the little children to come to me and do not hinder them” (Matthew 19:14). The Invisible Head of the Church will one day come to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire, particularly those who have either by acts of omission or commission, destroyed innocent human life.

A real shepherd. One who will expose the wolves among the sheep.

Then you shouldn't have posted it in the first place, you bloddy twit. In the future, if you're going to accuse half the electorate of killing the handicapped an old people, be ready to defend it, huh?

Cleanup on aisle 16, if you would, Mod Squad.
