I read on another forum that for today's Mass on EWTN, they offered an Eastern-Rite Divine Liturgy. It was either Syro-Malabar or Syro-Malankara Rite.

totally off topic - but has anyone heard anything about who EWTN/Birmingham's next bishop will be? Foley is 76 or 77 years old.

Two more viewing opportunities: 7pm and 12 midnight, Eastern Standard Time.
Fr Pacwa introduces the Mass with some details and names.
A bishop is the main celebrant.
Well worth taping for future review.
EWTN is doing some programming related to the mideast in these days. Check/print out a schedule at ewtn.com/tv/...
**One item is "The Maronite Trilogy", 3rd episode re-airs Tonite 6:30pm EST

That was the thought on the forum at first, but someone said that they saw a number of Indians in the congregation. I guess we'll see at 7 pm EDT!

I saw it this morning. The Mass was celebrated by Bishop Joseph Mar Thomas of the Syro-Malabar rite. These are the Christians converted by St. Thomas the Apostle. They celebrate a Antiochian Mass which is similar to that of the Maranites. Quite impressive. The congregation stood the whole time. Incense was burnt the whole time and 12 alter boys and 6 priest or decons assisting.

Well worth taping for future review. Speaking of which, I looked for a download from the EWTN website and I guess they don't archive the daily Mass (or sell DVDs via the store either). They have Fr. Mitch's show with His Excellency but not the actual liturgy.
I wanted to tape it but was too exhausted. Rats.

I caught it on the re-run and agree it was very impressive. The clergy celebrated ad orientem, I noted.
Why them and not us?
To: Theophane
On EWTN Live, someone asked that very question. I was a little disappointed that no one really mentioned that a) ad orientem has been the Latin norm since time immemorial, and b) it has never been abrogated.

I watched it twice. Bishop, Priest's and Deacon's facing away from the laity in the pews.
The singing of the whole Mass.
The beautiful Altar linens.
Really came across as holy. I used to go to a Byzantine Church on Holy Days of Obligation on West St in the Wall Street area. The first time I went I thought I was in a Synagogue or Temple. The Cantor was great

Fr. Mitch's show - EWTN Live - will repeat 4AM Sunday morning EST July 30.
The discussion with Bp Thomas was very informative with many clips of the Mass inserted as appropriate.
I wanted to tape it but was too exhausted. Rats.
