Kids Kill In Violent Christian Videogame

Evangelical videogame makers are hoping to capture a mainstream audience with a new game that leaves corpses piled on the streets of New York.

The Rapture is headed for New York City, and just in time for Christmas. In Left Behind: Eternal Forces, a Christian-themed videogame due out this October, the New York skyline smolders during the End of Days, the faithful have been called up to heaven, and the remaining New Yorkers are engaged in an epic clash between the Tribulation Forces and the Antichrist's army of Global Community Peacekeepers (aka UN Peacekeepers).

Evangelical videogame makers are praying that Eternal Forces will finally enable them to tap into the $25 billion global videogame market. They hope their "Christian" values-themed game will capture the same audience that has made bestsellers out of violent standards like Grand Theft Auto and Halo 2.

Jonathan Hutchinson says he wasn't opposed to videogame violence per se. "The level of violence in this videogame is not at issue," he said. "Rather, it's the indoctrination in Christian supremacy because the game rehearses and instructs children in the mass killing of New Yorkers for the sake of Christ and that is an abomination." He also said he was appalled that in Eternal Forces, corpses are left on the streets. "It's outrageous that this game has a feature to allow cold corpses of New Yorkers to pile up on the streets. No one gives them a decent burial."

Uh-Oh.. New Yorkers watch out!

This is really a terrible thing to teach children.

What makes you think these video gamemakers are "evangelicals"?

Frankly, this enterprise sounds like a mockery of evangelicism.

You wouldn't happen to be contemptuous of "evangelicals", would you?

It would make a great stocking stuffer this Christmas.

No, but I happen to be contemptuous of this game and what it represents. If you have a problem, take it up with the author of the article. I'm just trying to report on the game.

I do have a problem with the inflammatory nature of the headine of your post and your apparently uncritical acceptance of this article on its face.

As a Catholic (and fellow "evangelical", check the definition) you ought to be offended by the inference of this anti-evangelical article.

Beware of speading contempt against entire belief systems via wide brush strokes. You get smeared yourself.

That's cool, but I always thought of the Doom games as Christian. I mean, going through dungeons, reducing demons into little stains on the wall, what can be more Christian than that? Jesus did it Himself when He descended into hell...

I have contempt for an entire belief system it's called islam. I have the same contempt for secularism. I might think of more if I tried.

Christians and religious Jews are ok in my book.

What's inflammatory about the truth?? I can't help what the title of the article is. I am trying to obey FRs rules and not mess with copyrighted material. Did you want me to change the title so it would not offend your sensitivities and get FR in trouble?

As a Catholic (and fellow "evangelical", check the definition) you ought to be offended by the inference of this anti-evangelical article.

I fail to see your logic. I think that perhaps it is you that has taken offense because someone has the nerve to expose something that isn't right within the evangelical community. Why get bent out of shape with me? Why don't you get bent out of shape with the people that dared to make such a video

Beware of speading contempt against entire belief systems via wide brush strokes. You get smeared yourself.

Why would you want to smear me when I have done NOTHING!! All I did was report on something that is wrong. I gave proof too that it is from an evangelical group that made it. I fear your anger is directed at the wrong person. Perhaps you should take that up with Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins and Tyndale House Publishers(Christian) which are promoting this game.

This is a little different. According to the article, it instructs children to kill NYers.

May as well make them ready for the future, lest we do find ourselves fighting an enemy on our own shores. I have heard older fighter pilots say these new kids that have been playing video games from child hood can fly circles around them.

In our entire nation, Christian or not, we are raising a well trained nation of fighters from the age of five. We are already seeing the benefit in our fighter pilots. I think it's great, as there is a time for war. I just hope it's never on our own soil and all these kids grow up to be doctors, lawyers, and accountants.

But if the worse should happen, and video games turn into real life, then some enemy is going to have their hands full dealing with us.

PAINTBALL is the answer! My church has a field, and some of those kids ar every very good. We have local SWAT team members who help out, and they're impressed with the skills of these kids.

Okay, so what you're telling me is that we should start training our Christian children to kill? Why rob their childhood innocence and turn them into militants?

I have a novel idea. Instead of putting videos games into their hands that teach them violence and to kill, why not put a Bible in their hands and take them to church?

Christianity is pretty militant, last time I checked. You just direct that militancy toward the kingdom of the enemy, and enforce the dominion of Jesus. This simpy, wimpy crap has got to end if we're going to win the world to Christ.

It's about time the younger generation got a little impatient with the status quo. We need some prophets and apostles to rise up and take over! The Gospel must be preached to every tribe and nation, with miracles and signs following, THEN shall the end come.

And for the record, I don't agree with this silly 'Left Behind' garbage either. What, we're supposed to sit around and wait for the antichrist to take over? Forget that. He better be afraid of us!

I'll tell you this- my kids have a great childhood, and they are being raised in a miltant depiction of Christianity. Putting up with sin, sickness and poverty is not an option. You enforce the Kingdom, take dominion, and establish the rule of God.

Are you calling Jesus a wimp then?? The greatest promoter of peace that ever walked the face of the earth? "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God."

It's about time the younger generation got a little impatient with the status quo. We need some prophets and apostles to rise up and take over! The Gospel must be preached to every tribe and nation, with miracles and signs following, THEN shall the end come.

Please explain what you mean by the status quo.

And for the record, I don't agree with this silly 'Left Behind' garbage either. What, we're supposed to sit around and wait for the antichrist to take over? Forget that. He better be afraid of us!

Did you know that the word antichrist is never mentioned in Revelations? What antichrist? There are many that have already entered the world according to St. John's epistles.

Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that Antichrist cometh, even now there are become many Antichrists: whereby we know that it is the last hour.

They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have remained with us; but that they may be manifest, that they are not all of us.

I'll tell you this- my kids have a great childhood, and they are being raised in a miltant depiction of Christianity. Putting up with sin, sickness and poverty is not an option. You enforce the Kingdom, take dominion, and establish the rule of God.

Are you from the word of faith movement? Jesus told us we would always have the poor with us and sickness sometimes is not always cured. St. Paul had physical maladies that he asked 3 times for the Lord to heal, but God said His grace was sufficient for St. Paul to bear it.

"My grace is sufficient for thee; for power is made perfect in infirmity. Gladly therefore will I glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

To top it off, each time a soldier slays one of the Antichrist's soldiers (who are UN Peacekeepers, remember), he triumphantly cries, "Praise the Lord!"

Change that to "Allahu Akbar" and the islamofacists would love this game.
