One of my favorites, GSlob. His, pardon the expression, Devil's Dictionary is on my reference shelf. I only wish he didn't wander off into the Mexican desert so we could have had more of his humor and insights...

Ditto for my reference book. He used proper/improper dichotomy to day/night - day proper and day improper, but the same construct could be used wider.

For those unfamiliar with Ambrose Bierce, here is the Wikipedia version of his life. While the bio is much too short, there are links to some of his works and diatribes.

It would be much better to procure some of his writings and enjoy his biting humor and rich sarcasm (//no sarcasm here) which have extended past his time and life-time. Truly a genius and worthwhile during our own times which feature too much realism and not enough insight...
