Can't blame a Church for what a rogue decided to do, come to think of it, it seems to run in the family!

By their furits ye shall know them at no time before that incident or after did the Church itself engaged or promoting such thinking!

As a spectator when reading about serveral close encounters that the children of the Church experience those who took council from the sevants of the Lord realized there is always had a better way...

Yes there will always be those whot think they know better than the rest!:)

BTW the issue of this thread is about the fact that in those days of Michael Servetus, it seems he tried to have a discussion on Trinity and other parts of the doctrine that was not in the Bible.

Miguel Serveto grew up in Villanueva, Aragon, sixty miles north of Zaragossa. At age 14 he entered the service of Juan Quintana, a scholarly Franciscan monk. Even in his youth Servetus was struck by the fact that the doctrine of the trinity was a serious obtstacle to evangelization of the Moors and Jews. While studying law at the University of Toulouse in France, he read the Bible, which the invention of the printing press had made newly and dangerously available. He was surprised to find the trinity nowhere explicitly mentioned, much less defined, in the sacred text.

Most of the time when this episode in history is mention so many refuse to acknowledge that the nature Godhead even than was contested!

I suppose that's the "official" story out there in nu yourk city, where you are very removed from the realities.

When was the last time YOU visited Mountain Meadows or perhaps read the court transcripts. It just shows how the heirarchy can "cut and run" when the need arises.

In his report, Major Carleton wondered whether it would be possible to administer justice in this case.

Then he addressed the truly responsible parties with the anger that only a person who saw the remnants of the massacre could muster.

"But how inadequate would be the punishment of a few, even by death, for this crime for which nearly the whole Mormon population, from Brigham Young down, were more or less instrumental in perpetrating," he wrote.

John Lee was identified very early on as the best scapegoat. He had been with the Indians at the beginning of the massacre, had persuaded the Gentiles to surrender their arms, and several witnesses had spoken about the gusto with which he undertook the mission of slaying the immigrants. By 1859, with a federal warrant out for his arrest, he was clearly a liability for the Church and despite his close ties to Young, was quickly exiled to the remotest part of the Mormon empire and subsequently excommunicated. When he was no longer useful to Brigham Young, the Prophet saw to it that he was disposed of.

tsk tsk

Signed,

Proud Rougue

Pot - kettle - black Just pointing out that many who do not believe in the doctrine of the trinity, live in glass houses and shouldn't throw stones.

The argument over the nature of the Godhead goes back at least to the Arian heresy. A good deal before Servetus' time.
