Jesuit priest guiding Nic's "spiritual homecoming" (Nicole Kidman's Return to the Catholic Church)
Catholic News ^ | June 13, 2006

A close religious confidant to Nicole Kidman, Jesuit Fr Paul Coleman, says the actor has returned to the Church on the eve of her marriage to country singer Keith Urban.

"For Nicole, you know, this is a spiritual homecoming, coming back to the church and her faith in her old parish," he said.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Fr Coleman is chaplain at Mary MacKillop Chapel in North Sydney. The church has reportedly been chosen as the venue for the nuptials on 25 June.

It is also where Kidman attended Easter Mass with her parents, Anthony and Janelle, last year.

Since her split from Tom Cruise in 2001, Kidman has returned to her Catholic roots, attending Mass regularly. She abandoned her faith when she married Cruise in a Church of Scientology ceremony at his isolated estate in Colorado in 1990.

Kidman has since been granted an annulment on the basis that her first marriage did not conform to the requirements of the Church.

Fr Coleman was instrumental in advising Kidman's family on the annulment.

But the priest said the family's wish was that "everything stays under wraps". He said no booking for the wedding had been made at the chapel.

Speculation that the ceremony could be held in the chapel at Monte Sant'Angelo College, North Sydney, was doubtful, he said.

"I don't believe either chapel is large enough to accommodate such a social wedding."

The wedding will be a star-studded affair. Guests are said to include Baz Luhrmann and Catherine Martin, Naomi Watts, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, Russell Crowe and Danielle Spencer, and Lachlan and Sarah Murdoch, as well as Rupert Murdoch and wife Wendi Deng.

Guests have reportedly been contacted to confirm the date, and told to wait for a second secretive communique to confirm the location and time.

The wedding is likely to be held under the cover of nightfall to reduce photographic interest.

Helicopter pilots, photographers, chefs and stylists retained at great expense have all signed confidentiality contracts.

In lieu of wedding gifts, the couple has provided guests with a list of charities and asked them to donate.

Here's hoping she fully embraces the faith. Hers would be a powerful witness.

I had a sneaking suspicion that this was part of the break-up. She saw Scientology for what it was, and those in it.

I hope she embraces the faith fully, and is able to maintain that love of God, and church for the duration of her life.

Maybe she can consult with Mel!

Glad to hear it.

And as an aside, if the skin on her face gets drawn any tighter, it'll snap. Urgh.

She's got bucks so the Jesuit comes running and the annulment is granted.

It doesn't cost anyone anything extravagant to get an annulment. And getting married in the Church of Scientology is a virtual slam-dunk approval for annulment, given it's cult-like characteristics.

My thoughts exactly.

Let's hope that this is her returning to the right path.

Told to me by a Jesuit.
Two Franciscans viewing a live Nativity scene, "How beautiful."
Two Dominicans, "Inspiring."
Two Jesuits, one old one young.
Young Jesuit pulls St. Joseph aside and says, "Give us your son, we'll make a man of him."
Old Jesuit to young one, "Shut up! Can't you see they're poor?"

As to cost of annulment. I have a buddy who paid for his ex's annulment so she could re-marry. (He couldn't have kids.) He claims it cost him a fortune, but was less than the alimony would have cost him over the years.

It has been a long time since $300 could have been considered "a fortune".

IIRC, my buddy's bill was five figures and was called a 'donation.' Of course this was in NYC in the early 70's so........

"Star-studded"?

OK, I've heard of Russell Crowe and I know who Rupert Murdoch (star??) is, but the rest??

Maybe this is the Oz version of the glitterati.

Not that there's anything wrong with that......

Amen, amen to that. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be upon her and her family.

as an aside, I saw a TV interview involving both Cruise and Kidman years ago. Cruise is really not very bright, or certainly not as fluent as she. She drawrfed him in many ways.
