Update: baby Kendall had open-heart surgery to correct what is known as PDA after birth. The surgery was scheduled for this past Tuesday and went forward on schedule. Due to some complications (heart spasms), they had to leave the chest "open"; they did not close the incision completely until yesterday. Obviously, infection is a big concern now and she is not completely out of the woods, so to speak. Thank you for all of your prayers and support.

Prayers and a practical suggestion.
It is as dangerous to go into a hospital these days as it was before Semmelweis discoverd the benefit of hand washing to prevent the passage of germs.
Everyone needs to INSIST that everyone in the hospitals wash their hands in front of them and that everything in the hospitals be cleaned and sterilized AS IF THERE WERE NO ANTIBIOTICS.
Such practices would soon virtually eliminate the rampant infections in the nation's hospitals. Currently, hygiene is for the protection of the health care worker, not the patient. Don't be fooled by a pair of rubber gloves.
Agreed. I actually worked in a hospital for five years so I've seen nosocomial infections first-hand. Thanks for the post and prayers.
