Catholic Devotion: Novena for God's Mercy, Day 7

Our Father, who art in heaven; hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you men of double mind. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to dejection. Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you.

Glory to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now and shall ever be, world without end, Amen.

Divine Mercy, gushing forth from the bosom of the Father, I trust in Thee! Divine Mercy, sweet relief for anguished souls, I trust in Thee! Divine Mercy, astonishment for Angels, incomprehensible to saints, I trust in thee!

Oh Father of mercy, Hear our voice, and let our cry come to thee, Remember this day your children caught in the hard places between the pulling of their hearts and what they know of your law. Be with all those who have difficult choices regarding loved ones, friends, children, companions, enemies. Have mercy on them and on the whole world!.

I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not trust and do not love you.

Eternal GOD, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus helps Catholics focus on the reality of God's love and their obligation to love others, Pope Benedict XVI said.

In the Sacred Heart, "we can recognize in an ever clearer way the limitless love God has for us," the pope wrote in a May 15 letter.

The papal letter was addressed to Father Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, superior general of the Society of Jesus, in recognition of the Jesuits' efforts to promote the devotion throughout the church over the past 150 years.

In 2006, the church celebrates the feast of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus June 23.

Pope Benedict said the devotion acquires its deepest meaning only when people express their awareness of God's love by dedicating their lives to his service.

"The experience of the love of God is lived as a 'call' to which one must respond," the pope said.

Gazing upon Jesus' "pierced heart" is a reminder that he took on the sufferings and sins of all humanity, which "helps us become more attentive to the suffering and needs of others," Pope Benedict said.

"It makes us able to entrust ourselves to his saving and merciful love and, at the same time, reinforces our desire to participate in his work of salvation by becoming his instruments," the pope said.

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee,
Whatever may befall me, Lord, though dark the hour may be;
In all my woes, in all my joys, though nought but grief I see,
O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee.

When those I loved have passed away, and I am sore distressed,
0 Sacred Heart of Jesus, I fly toThee for rest.
In all my trials, great or small, my confidence shall be
Unshaken as I cry, dear Lord, I place my trust in Thee.

This is my one sweet prayer, dear Lord, my faith, my trust, my love,
