The BBC has made available the following audio of C.S. Lewis:

"Beyond Personality: The New Men." Hear the only surviving footage of C.S. Lewis's broadcast talks. This is the last episode in Beyond Personality, the third series. It was broadcast on BBC radio on 21st March 1944. We apologise for the sound quality. The transcripts of all three series were published as Mere Christianity.

An introduction to The Great Divorce "Blake wrote The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. If I've written of their divorce, this is not because I think myself a fit antagonist for so great a genius, nor even because I feel at all sure that I knew what he meant..." C.S. Lewis introduces his book The Great Divorce in a clip first broadcast on 9th May 1948.

I wish I could hear it. Video and audio are difficult when one's connection is s-l-o-w.

Can you download it to play on a system program in your computer? I have the same problem if it's a 'streaming' presentation.

Save it to your hard drive. Right click on the file name and go to "save target as" and put it some place you can find it.

Then download Real Player if you don't already have it (there's a free no-frills version available if you Google it) and play away.

Lewis has a splendid voice - rich and deep, and that wonderful Irish accent keeps surging up through the Oxford crust . . . I have a tape of the old BBC broadcast of "The Four Loves", and I play it in the car just to revel in his beautiful voice.

No technical problems. Just bandwidth, when one's dialup maxes out at 26 kbps. (The good news is my cellphone recently upped to 206 kbps.)

Man, you gotta upgrade! Hock the family silver, or the dog, or something.

My husband is IT manager for his company, and I get his castoffs, which are still a whole lot better than normal. So I'm spoiled, I guess. But I don't know what on earth I'd do with dialup!

Exercise patience...? *\;-)

The dog died, and I'm too Scotch to hock the silver. But I have been known to go to the library if there's a really big download needed.

It might be different if the neighbors weren't always complaining about the lousy service.

I've been fresh out of patience for, oh, about 35 years or so now. ;-)
