I've been to this church before; it's just a few miles away from me. Its pastor is horrible -- imagine a younger Cardinal Mahoney-type.
I know this probably sounds weird, but I had this feeling of evil emanating from him, of darkness, blackness. I wouldn't go near there again for all the tea in China.
The concept of 'mega church' is already beginning to fade in the Evangelical Church. That this pastor should adopt a failing approach to drawing in the flock gives us an idea of how poor he is as a shepherd. That he should invite dissident catholics to speak to his congregation affirms your feelings. Big is not always better.
I happened to watch one of their "liturgies" on television one Sunday. The whole episode was borderline demonic. Fr. Brennan was doing hand gestures during the consecration. Pagan dancing in the offeratory. Of course, bread was brought up in a wicker picnic basket. He changed the words of the creed. And everyone stood..no kneeling at all. Fr. Brennan is quite well known for being a dissenting heretic. Apparently he was one of Card Bernandin's protege's..and he ends up with a wealthy suburban parish!
