Cardinal Mahony Online [Did he really say that?]
Los Angeles Religious Education Congress ^ | March 31, 2006 | Archbishop Roger Cardinal Mahony

Posted on 04/06/2006 10:52:05 AM PDT by Petrosius

From an online interview with Cardinal Mahony:

Joe: Hello Cardinal. With the growing interest in traditional worship of the Catholic Church are we going to see a more generous use of the Traditional Latin Mass?

CardinalMahony: It is not correct to say "traditional worship" in our Church. For a small slice of Church history, Latin was the language of Mass. But the Council moved us beyond that to a new Roman Missal. We must continue forward with the Church. However, it is important to bring with us our Latin hymns and other treasures from the past ages.

Is he kidding? 1600+ years is a "small slice"? What does he consider a long time?

But the Council moved us beyond that to a new Roman Missal.

The Cardinal is again incorrect. The council did not call for a new missal, this was a post-conciliar development. Nor did it call for an abandoment of Latin. Quite to the contrary it stated: "The use of the Latin language, with due respect to particular law, it to be preseved in the Latin rites." (Sacrosanctum concilium, no. 36) BTW, the Novus Ordo was also promugated in Latin.

How about this one:

Fr. Ignatius Reilly: Why have you removed Our Lord -- present in the tabernacle -- from its proper place in the center of the sanctuary?

Cardinal Mahony: I'm not sure what Fr. Reilly is referring to.

Well, don't you know Mahony should be called Cardinal Kumbaya? Now he should read a book or two ( a small slice of history). The current generation of bishops are primarily of Vatican II mindset (liturgically), even though they would primarily of the same mindset of Pope JP II in other areas esp. morals. It's not the Latin language in and of itself that I feel is so important, but the emphasis of sacrifice in the Tridentine Mass that did not transfer over to the Novus Ordo. Like the old maxim---you believe as you pray.

Oy vey! Cardinal Balony-Mahony inserts foot in mouth up to knee again - ping!

He's probably too busy worrying about pandering to illegal immigrants to pay attention to Church and liturgical history!

When's the next on line interview? We need a follow up question.

Perhaps the good Cardinal can point us to the document that 'moved us beyond that'.

Et cum spirtu, tuo, Cardinal.

Remember, this comes form Roger Phony Mahony, protector of pedophiles and amigo of illegal aliens. Take anything he says with about a pound of salt. All he is interested in is WIFA: What's In It For Mahony?
