Dan Wakefield wants to make it clear that he is not calling for "holy war."
True, the title of his new book, The Hijacking of Jesus: How the Religious Right Distorts Christianity and Promotes Prejudice and Hate (Nation Books, $23.95), may sound like a shot across the bow of, oh, about half the churches in America.

I do think Tony was a bit polluted by his sociologist education.
But he's not quite as socialist as most of them are.
Still, I would like to see him much more conservative than he is.
Nevertheless, he still out Christians most Christians I know.
I agree about telling Klintoon to resign.
Was quite unhappy with his counsel to Klintoon. But then, I don't know, really what it was. It was private.
So, I assumed things and felt bad at him from my assumptions.
Not very Christian, that.
I don't think it's because Holy Spirit told him to.
***He's nothing more than a modern-day Pharisee; judging others without knowing their hearts.***
Oh, you know his heart? Since, you judged him... I would not to conclude you are being Pharisaical.
I'm somewhat torn on such issues.
JESUS HIMSELF SAID, IF A BRO NEEDS A COAT AND YOU HAVE TWO--GIVE HIM ONE OF YOURS.
IF Christians really obeyed that, poverty would be cured. Of course, we'd have to do more--like community development and requiring and teaching to fish vs just receive handouts.
But Tony does that hard type of charity community development work.
Tony is passionate about helping the poor. Somehow, he seems to have much more of the heart of Jesus about it than the folks on this thread come across as having.
Sheesh! Why not just put up the Tony Campolo Amazon links?
I wanted to note which ones had touched me most and had been the biggest aid and encouragement to my Christianity.
I don't notice anyone holding a gun to your head to read any of them.
Though you'd likely benefit if you did--that is, if you experienced some miracle of grace which allowed you to read them with a Holy Spirit discerning open mind.
LOL! Tony Campolo...the Savior of the Domican Republic. And now I expect they will change the name of Ciudad Trujillo to Ciudad Campolo.
You seem to throw rocks very, very, very freely
and that without so much as 10% exammining the evidence.
I suppose you want us to believe that this is
CHRISTlike behavior on your part?
That indeed is one of the finest sermons I've heard. I did a search a couple of years ago and found the text on the internet.
One does not want to sit in the front row without an umbrella when Tony preaches.
He was spot-on with the preaching of the Gospel when I heard him back in the '80's. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him with Billy Jeff at Brown's funeral. If I remember correctly, he was one of his 'spiritual advisors' during the Monica days.
He's not very judgmental.
Tends to leave that up to Jesus.
But he can be fiercely stern and exacting, all the same--calling people to Jesus' standard as best as he can discern and articulate it.
How could we ask more of a believer?
You don't recall the country, and you don't recall the company. But you expect us to believe what is a transparent cock-and-bull story spun by a known leftwing sociopath. Stop wasting our time with this stupid crap.
Perhaps you'd be willing to point out to me which FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT you wrote the above out of???
I examined Campolo very, very, very freely on video. And I felt like the shrink in the Gary Larson cartoon listening to a patient and writing on his notepad: "Just plain NUTS!!!"
Very curious given your screen name.
And, just one video?
Such harshness from one video.
Impressive.
Um...many videos.
Difficult to explain
. . . apart from the glasses in front of your eyes or the screens behind them.
Amazing.
Have said I'm not happy with his political stands.
Do you want me to write that 100 times before you believe it, or what?
I think your tidy boxes for reality are too small.
