As noted in a recent statement, the Most Revd Henry Orombi has dissociated the Church of Uganda from Christopher Ssenyonjo, deposed from the episcopate and the ordained ministry of the Church of Uganda several years ago for his gay and lesbian advocacy (including his leadership of an Ugandan chapter of Integrity, the gay and lesbian caucus in The Episcopal Church), who recently established a splinter group known as the Charismatic Church of Uganda, with himself as bishop.
The Monitor (Kampala) reported yesterday on the recently announced further inhibition and dissociation (though, interestingly, no outright excommunication) in Uganda: Church expels Bishop Ssenyonjo. Last week The Monitor reported that the former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Rt Revd Mpalanyi Nkoyooyo, reported that Ssenyonjo is a rebel and the church does not want to associate with him (see Uganda: Ssenyonjo is a Rebel - Nkoyooyo).
Almost certainly this further, stronger inhibition and total dissociation of the Church of Uganda in the persons of their present and immediate former archbishops will not stop Ssenyonjo from his schismatic mischief, but it will serve to warn parishes and congregations of the Church of Uganda against him.
