The standing committee of the Diocese of California announced March 15 that the Rev. Canon Michael Barlowe, officer for congregational development, Diocese of California, and the Rev. Donald Schell, co-rector, St. Gregory of Nyssa Church, San Francisco, have been nominated by petition to stand for election for bishop. The petition process closed March 13, and no more nominees will be added to the slate.
The election is scheduled for May 6 at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. The two nominations by petition bring the total slate to seven. The others are: the Rt. Rev. Mark Handley Andrus, Bishop Suffragan of the Diocese of Alabama; the Rev. Jane Gould, rector of St. Stephens Church, Lynn, Mass.; the Rev. Bonnie Perry, rector of All Saints Church, Chicago; the Rev. Canon Eugene Taylor Sutton, canon pastor of Washington National Cathedral; and the Very Rev. Robert V. Taylor, dean of St. Marks Cathedral, Seattle.
Rev. Barlowe. He is a partnered gay man.
Rev. Schell He is straight, but thinks Rumi and Malcolm X are saints.
Conditions in nutsville havent changed.
