This of course presumes that the elders are actually living - as opposed to asking a dead pope to "intervene". Do you not believe that when one dies, they go to heaven? Are their souls not "alive in Christ?"
Do you not believe that those in heaven are not capable of praying for you?

No I do not. Deuteronomy 18:11 specifically enjoins God's people from consulting with the dead. Secondly 1Tim 2:5 specifically states that there is only one mediator between God and man and that is Christ Jesus.
So, asking any dead person to pray for you is idolatry according to scripture
