Usually in our bible studies, we will have several people with different translations. When we read scripture, normally were asked if anyone has a different translation than that of the study notes.

KJV was just very difficult for me to retain. NIV is a much easier translation and reflects the language of today.

We did do a brief study on the translation from Aramaic, Hebrew, Greek, Latin and English. The problem is that even the KJV does not adequately translate some text. There are some words in these languages that just don't translate directly so the authors of the various translations tried to describe in English as close as they linguistically could.

Ours, too. It's really helpful, as there are some passages that are evidently difficult to translate, so there are several approaches to the same verse. I've found that one can often get a better feel for "the real meaning" somewhere between the various attempts.
