That is all in the article, read it.
So9
OOPS! Last sentence: "...remit sins to the Church..." should read "...remit the temporal punishement due to sins to the Church..."
Sorry...long day!
All along they thought it was Latin!
LOL!
They don't bother to read the Bible. If they did they wouldn't be Catholic.
Nothing like throwing out some bait and then waiting for "Catholic bashing" when all along the topic posted is Protestant bashing!
Oh, well ... .
"Are you familiar with Hermeneutics ?"
I can't find that in my Bible.
BTTT
"Heaven is not locked..."
However, it cannot simply be entered. We ourselves provide the locks to Heaven's gate in the form of sin and lack of repentance. Just ask the Rich Man observing his servant Lazarus in Heaven. Besides, what I said was an analogy. "Analogy" is not "identity." Otherwise, most of Jesus' own parables would fall apart in micro-dissection. Is the word of God a physical "seed," for example, ready to be sown? No. So too this. The house signifies not so much heaven (though that is part of it) as much as it signifies God's forgiveness. The keys are access to that forgiveness, attained in *similar* fashion as the interior of a house is entered via unlocking the door. He who has the housekeys can allow anyone whom he wishes to enter, or refuse them entrance. The same thing happens with the power given by God to the Apostles (mere men, mind you!) to forgive sins. They literally controlled access to God's forgiveness. So do their successors to the present day and to the very end of time. You may not find this comfortable to consider, and, in a human sense, I can understand that. But Jesus said what he said with a purpose, and you would do well to consider availing yourself of the means of forgiveness He Himself has inaugurated and still maintains.
Thanks, I was unaware of that publication.
Your ability to believe as you are told by faith is ok with me, because sometimes I can believe by faith and other times I have problems with it. The reason I feel that is how Jesus got himself killed by being misunderstood with the use of parables? or was it because he intended to die for us (right answer). However even the Jews said, let's see what happens if we kill you,we will chose Barnabas instead of you because Jesus death was prophesied by him. Using the word King set him up to be killed. In the days oof profound ignorance, little communication ,fortune tellers, fears of your neighbors killing you, witchcraft, you can understand the problem with saying one is eating his "flesh" when it is "scientifically" a cracker blessed by the priest.
Know you are aware of this situation with Christianity. Not trying to be funny!! But feel you should understand what I am trying to say and not confuse it with Jesus told us that "it is, so it is ". So, it is a parable. We are taught that Jesus spoke in parables. No wonder the world is so confused, but I understand. Sometimes I have difficulty with what I know to be a scientific fact versus believeing what I am told.
My point is it is difficult to tell the difference between a Godly person versus "false prophets" accept by their works.
Happy Day!!
The whole counsel of God is not found in Scripture, it is found in the complete revelation which includes Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the Magesterium of the Church. He gave us a Church, singular, before He gave us the complete canon of Scripture. To fully understand Scripture correctly it must be read through the guidance of that which He created for the purpose. With out the right guidance of that which the gates of hell will not prevail, we are all to often left to our own devices.
His yoke is easy and His burden is light once you surrender completely to Him and His will. Struggle against Him by resisting His one Church and the yoke is a self imposed trial and His burden a crushing Stone that we alone are unable to bare.
Abandon your self imposed isolation from His full revelation and know the fullness of the Word. Christ spoke a language we can all understand if we will have ears to hear.
We do, a Catholic, properly disposed to "recognize the Lord in the breaking of the bread" is filled with His grace and his soul is filled with living water and true manna from heaven, to hunger and thirst no more.
Remember, later on Christ reminds us that the flesh profits nothing but it is the spirit that gives life: he is feeding our spirit with His flesh and blood giving our spirit eternal life. Don't worry about your belly when your spirit is starving.
The keys, then and even now, represent authority. It's a reference to Isaiah 22. To deny the relevance of the keys is to call Christ a liar or a giver of vain gifts and scripture a fairy tale. Christ has the authority to give authority to whom He chooses, He chose Peter, who are we to argue?
Dear twidle,
JecIIny pointed out the basic reason for the founding of the proprietary colony of Maryland by Lord Baltimore; that Catholics could escape the religious persecution of Protestant Great Britain.
I will add that he caused the colony to pass the first religious tolerance act in history, permitting any Christian to take up residence in Maryland without any legal hindrance.
However, once Maryland became predominantly Protestant in a few generations, the religious tolerance act was repealed by Protestants, and the civil rights of Catholics were curtailed, including the loss of the right to hold public office, the loss of the ability of the Catholic Church to own its own parishes, and the loss of the right to say the Catholic Mass publicly.
We Catholics actually invented religious tolerance in the New World. Protestants took advantage of the religious tolerance that we provided in law. And then promptly, Protestants took away that religious tolerance from the Catholics who granted it to them.
No good deed goes unpunished.

Silly ignorant-of -scripture-because-your-priests-forbid-you-from-reading-it-catholic, every Christian knows that the Bible, all 66 books, were written in the Kings English; that's why it's called the "Authorized Version". ;)
And "scientifically" there is no God, since God is a spirit, not material and not subject to study by any scientific method.
So you therefore must be an athiest, since God cannot be scientifically proved.
I suggest to you that, barring any alternative views, this thread would lack the stimulation many, unadmittedly, enjoy.
To thine own self be true.
