It means what it says. Paul clearly states that when becomes absent from the body (dead) he will be present with the lord.

Oh, good grief. You find one obscure quote from Paul about leaving one's body and you decide that overrides Jesus' own words as well as the Revelation? Try the following texts:
John 11:1-44
Matt 22:23-32
John 5:29
Acts 23:6
Acts 24:25

and most importantly
Revelation 20:5-6
