If you consider Protestants to be "separated brethren", you are not being consistent with Catholic doctrine, since that particular church refers only to some Lutherans in that way.

Still, Protestants, in general, are not considered heretics because, in general, most of them were never previously adherents of Catholicism. (You have to have been "one" to become a "heretic").

I suspect that as long as Catholics are in the habit of referring to themselves as Catholics, both they and others are going to continue to refer to Protestants, as well as Lutherans, as Christians.

At some point, I suppose, Catholics will discover that they, too, are Christians, and we'll all do a big group hug and sing kumbayah.

You might want to know what you are talking about before you post.

Just a suggestion.

Spare me. There's already a little too much of that business going on, don't you think?

I haven't thought about the issue in question much, but I do feel insulted that some people don't know that Catholics are Christian. We are the largest "denomination" in the US, IINM, but we still manage to get discriminated against and hated.

If the world doesn't want to be Catholic, why do they all stop when the Pope dies? They don't like it that the Pope is the Leader of Worldwide Christianity, but deep down they know its true.

Well the Catholics split from the Orthodox and the protestants split from them.

I say we call the lot of them protestants. ;p

Protestants belong to heretical churches. They believe differently from Catholics. To that extent they are heretics.

nah, I doubt that, because until all other denominations submit themselves to the authority of the catholic church, they, "catholics" will deny our Identity as Christians. I've already engaged this debate, and their reluctance to bring any evidence other than Catholic writings, and refusal to debate standing upon scriptures, makes this an exercise in redundancy, and inevitably a circular argument going nowhere.
