How about "I come to the garden alone,
while the dew is still on the roses,
and the voice I hear,
falling on my ear,
the Son of God discloses.
And He walks with me,
and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share,
As we tarry there,
None other has ever known"
done to sensual waltz time,
And "The Lyrics:
Who am I that You are mindful of me
That You hear me when I call
Is it true that You are thinking of me
How You love me it's amazing
(Chorus)
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
I am a friend of God
He calls me friend
God Almighty, Lord of Glory
You have called me friend
(Repeat Chorus)
He calls me friend
He calls me friend..."
Not done to waltz time, just an energizing beat.
The first has a nice warm sentimental verse but lousey theology and the second has deep theological content and an up beat rhythm. Which do you prefer?
Sounds like something Celine Dion would sing.
I don't see the deep theology in the second song you posted. God and I are not "buddies". He is my God, my Creator and Sustainer, the LORD of the whole Universe, my Savior and Light.
Tim is my friend, Shaun is my friend, Susan is my friend. I am God's child, and all I have, even my very next breath is dependent upon Him and His good will and pleasure.
Your song there seems to cheapen the relationship, and bring God down to a "chummy" level. It just can't compare to something like "A Mighty Fortress is our God", or "Man of Sorrows".
I just don't see Hebrews 12:28&29 applying to that song:
"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire."
By the by, I never much cared for "In the Garden" either.
Yep, I totally agree. with both of those being shallow. Doesn't matter. Music is secondary to the preaching. If the preaching and teaching is bad, good music will not save it. If the music is bad, that still can be remedied by proper teaching.
BTW I am only a friend of God if he calls me friend... and that is only if I do what he has commanded - speak the truth with boldness, not catering to fleshly desires of unsaved people.
