The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I, the spiritual leader of the worldwide Orthodox Christian Church, steps over rubble as he surveys devastation at the site of the break in the inner harbor navigational canal Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, in the Lower Ninth Ward district of New Orleans. Bartholomew laid flowers and prayed for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
