The Theology of the Body coming through! What a mighty good teaching. Sex is good ... very good. And like anything good, it can be twisted into something misunderstood or bad. But the graces are there from Christ to keep sex good. We can do it and reclaim our understanding and love of sex. I love hope in the Church!

Maybe he's going to try to repair Augustine a bit,"

If Benedict XVI did nothing else in his papacy, correcting Augustine's disdain for the human body and its desires would serve mankind immensely.

The idea that sexual desire is somehow sinful in itself is still very much with us, despite John Paul II's strong theologizing to the contrary. Perhaps it takes a disciple of Augustine to bring the world this "Nixon goes to China" moment.

Let us rid humanity of Manicheaism and its dualism forever!

God gave us the ability to feel eros love. The problem comes in when don't balance our feelings with logical thinking.

Eros love, acted upon between husband and wife - good.

Eros 'love', acted upon by one person with other persons based on 'feelings' that are impacted by silly things, such as the guy forgot to change his socks - bad.

We had a minister in a church in CA, that continually preached on this subject. The man was struggling with the fact that his wife divorced him because she didn't want to be a minister's wife and he just couldn't get past it. I was so tired of hearing about agape love.

C.S. Lewis also covered the subject in his book, the "Four Loves." This would be a useful commentary on the issue.

God's Loving Design

8. Married love particularly reveals its true nature and nobility when we realize that it takes its origin from God, who "is love," (6) the Father "from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named." (7)

Marriage, then, is far from being the effect of chance or the result of the blind evolution of natural forces. It is in reality the wise and provident institution of God the Creator, whose purpose was to effect in man His loving design. As a consequence, husband and wife, through that mutual gift of themselves, which is specific and exclusive to them alone, develop that union of two persons in which they perfect one another, cooperating with God in the generation and rearing of new lives.

The marriage of those who have been baptized is, in addition, invested with the dignity of a sacramental sign of grace, for it represents the union of Christ and His Church.

Sex is not evil, it's good, very good. It becomes bad when it's committed out of the context of marriage and when contraception is used.

The secular, neo-pagan humanists understanding of human nature sees the body only as the instrument of enjoyment and to be used and manipulated for one's means rather than a spirtiual whole person--the soul with the body.

Tobit
6:16. Then the angel Raphael said to him: Hear me, and I will show thee who they are, over whom the devil can prevail.

6:17. For they who in such manner receive matrimony, as to shut out God from themselves, and from their mind, and to give themselves to their lust, as the horse and mule, which have not understanding, over them the devil hath power.
