my point was that it was not a preposterous idea that ... men/women shall be rewarded for their good works ... and that that reward is beyond salvation itself.

I agree that men and women will be rewarded accordingly in heaven. All of our hearts will be completely filled - the size of our hearts determined by our love here on earth. Some of us will have a 55 gallon drum of love filled to the rim and others may have only a gallon, but it will be filled by Christ.

My point is to disagree with the interpretation that all verses that talk about judging a Christian refer to such rewards. This is simply untrue, as there are enough cases to show that the "once-saved" Christian, the one who cries "Lord, Lord" but does NOT do the will of the Father, shall NOT be saved for heaven. They will be disqualified. Disinherited. These words that St. Paul uses are not the words one uses for achieving heaven but not sitting at the head of the table with Jesus at the Wedding Banquet...

For the child that suffers loss is saved also ... but does not receive the aforementioned reward. The aforementioned reward was heaven! Read the very next verse and see that some will be DESTROYED!:

"If anyone defiles the temple of God, God shall destroy that one" 1 Cor 3:17a

Paul is speaking about Christians who are divisive throughout the first three chapters, the ones who are defiling the Temple of God, the Community, the Church. Clearly, the elect for eternal heaven is NOT the same exact number of people who are elect to enter the Church on earth. Christ Himself makes this clear in several parables.

I find not one translation of the passage which is rendered ... suffers as by fire. Yes, your rendering is correct - but will anyone "save as by fire" in heaven? Does not the term "fire" have such a concept of suffering something? Who will suffer in heaven? My point is that St. Paul is refering to a third state of existence after death, besides heaven and hell. May I call it "Purgatory", a place of suffering as if by fire, which saves?

Regards

Can one be saved (so as by fire) ... AND ... suffer the loss of heaven simultaneously ?

If so, then what is the one that is saved (so as by fire) ... saved to ?
