That's lame, HD. So, accoridng to you, God enticed satan to put Job through all that just so Job would endure when God knew all along that he would? And, then, on top of that, God blames the devil for "provoking" Him to ruin Job for no cause??? First of all, there is something seriously wrong with this, besides the obvious: God did't do the "ruining" and satan didn't do any "provoking."

The Book of Job is a wonderful story. It teaches us that even when we think otherwise, we should never blame God. That is both true and inerrant. You can believe whatever you wish, even in fairytales.

The text states:

1) God initiates the conversation with Satan about Job. (1:8)
2) Satan complains that God has put a "hedge" around him. (1:10)
3) Satan tells God “But put forth Your hand” [sic meaning God’s hand] and Job will curse God. (1:11)
4) God tells Satan, “OK” (1:12)
5) Satan wreak havoc on Job Enterprises (1:13-22)
6) God tells Satan that He was the Perpetrator of the deed. (2:3)

Both Satan (1:11) and God (2:3) acknowledged that the power to afflict Job had to come from God. There is nothing lame about it. Just read the text.
