LOL.
My impression is that all Calvinist reading of scripture is skipping from quote to quote. The foundational document is the Institutes, not the Gospel.

My impression is that all Calvinist reading of scripture is skipping from quote to quote. The foundational document is the Institutes, not the Gospel. It seems that way. It is amazing how such a decrepit system came into being, so out of charecter with the rest of the Church Fathers and the Scriptures with Christ in mind.

No, actually when the primary source is clear why muddy the waters with an opinion. When the scriptures are clear, like when it says that Job sinned, why look to another source to hold up a shaky tradition. Or when the scriptures are silent because the myth is not relevant to the revelation of Jesus, why look to church fathers for a tradition that has no relevance for salvation, sanctification or glorification.
Paul says to Timothy,
2Ti 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
John teaches,
1Jo 2:26 These [things] have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
Peter reminds his readers,
2Pe 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost.
Now that is perfectly clear that the Word of God is perspicuous and with the Holy Spirit as teacher and interpreter, as John said, you don't need secondary or tertiary sources to teach you. Now there is an erroneous interpretation of Peter's "that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation" that says the phrase applies to one's reading of the scriptures, however looking at it in context it is readily apparent it applies to the writing of the prophecies, not the reading of them, and I'm sure you haven't fallen into that error.
By the way, the Calvinists on this forum do not consider me to be one of them. They tolerate me and allow me to argue their side superficially when they are busy, but stop at anything deep like the Institutes.
