That was my point. I persued the discussion because a couple of people on this thread claim to be Calvinists and at the same time maintain that God is the author of evil. John Calvin denied repeatedly in his writing that God is the author of evil or sin.
People can interpret Scripture in many ways. But what you cannnot do is claim to be a Calvinist and at the same time insist that God is the author and creator of evil if you want to maintain any credibility about Calvinism. To claim such is to distort the teaching and writing of John Calvin. At the very least, let us be clear about what Calvin said.
I don't know, Stripes, I'm pretty familiar with the posting on this thread, and I can't remember any Calvinist saying that God is the author of evil. As Harley described in his 4673, it depends on what you call "evil". If you think the great flood was evil, then either all of us have a problem, or you don't think the flood ever really happened. You correctly pointed out how Calvin saw this, and I haven't heard anyone here disagree with that from my side.
