Those who continue to rebel in post salvation sin, even through divine discipline, are not further sanctified until they return to Him.
I'm confident God knows the proper discipline to bring us around. He can make our lives pretty ugly if He wants. Our wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption is all from the Lord:
But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctication, and redemption, so that , just as it is written, "Let Him who boasts, boast in the Lord." 1 Cor 1:30-31
