The selling of indulgence was once an "infallible" Church teaching. After two hundred years it was condemned. One has to wonder how a infallible teaching could go bad.

Get your facts straight. You should know better. The idea of indulgences is infallible. Selling of them was an abuse. Indulgences are not meant to be sold, they are given by the power invested in the Church to bind and loosen. A large donation (we call "almsgiving") is a valid means of walking in faith. Did not Jesus commend the old lady who gave two pennies? Was she buying an indulgence??
