I wonder if there is some reason to consider it unnatural having political liberals in a continuing church.

It is possible to be a Christian and to disagree on political issues. But I have found that Marxism, Leninism, Maoism, Liberation theology and similar beliefs are quite inconsistent with Christianity. And those who would give aid and comfort to muslim militants probably don't have an agenda of spreading the gospel.
