I grew up in the Episcopal Church in the 1950's through the late 60's in Massachusetts. We were "low church", I guess. Our pastor's title was "Reverend" and his office was "Minister". In 1968 we moved from Massachusetts to the Chicago area, and fell away from the Church. After a hiatus of some 30 years I re-entered life with the Church as part of an Anglo-Catholic parish in the Chicago suburbs. I was a bit taken aback by calling the pastor "Father" and referring to him as a priest. But I didn't have a big problem going along with the rest of the parish. However, I just thought it was part of being Anglo-Catholic instead of low church; I didn't know that there was a change over the years across the country.

This is much in accordance with my recollections except that I remained in ECUSA until '83. However, my father (an evangelical Episcopal minister) advised on choice of churches, so I too was unaware of any such changes. I did get somewhat accustomed to "Father" along the way, but that's as far as it went.
