Recife Creates "North-American Archdeaconry" at its Synod
American Anglican Council ^ | 12/06/2005

The Anglican Diocese of Recife, Brazil, in its XXV Synod (December, 1-3th) voted for the creation of an extraterritorial “North American Archdeaconry” for its parishes and missions in the United States. The revd Duncan Clark, St. Charles, Poulsbo, Wa, was designated Archdeacon for the area. Recife has other four Archdeacons for its local territory. Six priests, two retired priests, three deacons, serving in two parishes and four missions in four US States are under Recife’s Episcopal oversight. The revd Carol Harlacher, St. Stephen, Oak Harbor, Wa, was present, representing the group. By other decision, the Synod plenary appointed the Rt. Revd. Peter Beckwith, of Springfield (“Companion Diocese” with Recife) as “Auxiliary Bishop for Pastoral Care”, available to the new Archdeaconry. Bishop Beckwith spoke to the Synod and preached in its closing Service, a very especial one, with Baptism, First Eucharist, Confirmation, the Ordination of one Deacon and two Priests and the Theological Seminary Graduation.

The atmosphere of the Synod was of peace and hope and enthusiasm, very different from last year. The Primate of the Southern Cone Rt. Revd. Gregory J. Venables, under whose Primatial Authority is the Diocese of Recife – sent a moving pastoral message.

It was ratified the decisions taken by the Extraordinary Synod, last November, 26th, of disconnecting from the Province of Brazil, institutional and ecclesiastically, and approving a new Canon that says: ”The Anglican Diocese of Recife – DAR, presently, connects to the Primatial Authority of the Anglican Church of the Southern Cone of America, in the Anglican Communion, under the spiritual leadership of the See of Canterbury”.

For the Recife Press Secretary revd Estêvão Menezes Chiappetta: ”We are de jure (for the State) and de facto (for the Church) pro-tempore, extra-provincial to the See of Buenos Aires, by analogy in a similar situation of Portugal, Spain and Bermudas as extra-provincial to the See of Canterbury. In the present process of realignment of the Anglican Communion we continue with our mission until a more definitive solution”.

It looks like they are getting ready to expand in North America.

I am pretty sure I posted an article or two about the two churches in WA before, but I seem to have lost the link.
It might have been before I started recording everything posted to the list.
