I may have missed it somewhere. But does anyone know what Caridinal Mahoney's reaction to the document is? I bet he pretty pissed about it! I will be surprised to hear otherwise.

A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles said the instructions would have little, if any, effect on how seminaries in the Los Angeles area admit candidates.
But haven't heard from the bishop there.
Haven't heard from my bishop either (diocese of Salt Lake), but I'm expecting something of a soft sell, couched in careful terms to try to please as many as possible. But he lets his diocese do the right thing, if the priest in the parish wants to, and doesn't interpret the GIRM in weird ways that he tries to inflict on everybody. And there's adoration all over the place. I don't complain much.
Didn't I see somewhere that the Archdiocese of L.A. doesn't have any seminarians? So this definitely wouldn't make any difference for them!
They do have great problems with vocations...
Not as big a problem as Ireland. ZERO ordinations in five years for Dublin.
If they want seminarians, they have to take it seriously. Start with adoration. Find priests who actually are serious about it, want to do the right thing, and can be good role models. Vocations will follow in their wake.
The diocese of Salt Lake, in an area where Catholics are definitely a minority, has 13 seminarians right now. We have less than 200,000 catholics in the diocese, only 120,000 registered.
Having clergy who take loving the Lord seriously is normally a good way to produce vocations!
I heard Opus Dei in Ireland is doing well with vocations to the priesthood. Maybe they are ordained in Rome or Spain.
Compare Lincoln Nebraska to Los Angeles and Boston and Dublin. If the people are taught the true faith you have vocations. If it's watered down, you don't.
