The new Anglican Old Catholic International Co-ordinating Council (AOCICC) met between 7th – 10th November, 2005, at Haus Bruchmatt, Lucerne, Switzerland under the co-chairmanship of the Right Revd Jonathan Gledhill, Bishop of Lichfield, and the Right Revd Fritz-René Müller, Bishop of Switzerland. The Council is grateful for the warmth of hospitality offered by the sisters at Haus Bruchmatt.

The new Council has come into being following a new mandate from the Archbishops of Canterbury and Utrecht, which builds on the work of the first Anglican Old Catholic International Co-ordinating Council, which completed its five year mandate last year.

The Council received reports on recent developments from the various Old Catholic churches, and these were complemented by reports on developments in the life of the Anglican Communion following the publication of the Windsor Report, on the life of the Anglican Diocese in Europe, and recent developments in the life of the Church of England.

The Council gives thanks to God for seventy-five years of shared life between Anglicans and Old Catholics through the Bonn Agreement of 1931, and gave consideration to the plans for the celebration of that anniversary. It went on to discuss the shape of future relations between the two church families.

The Council believes that the time is right to move towards a new level of common life and witness including deeper consideration of full visible unity. This common life and witness must be founded on the local life of our congregations, and so the Council wishes to give especial attention in its future work to developing ways in which Anglican and Old Catholic congregations may work more closely.

The Council therefore plans to look at the specific items of its mandate in this light at its future meetings.

9th November 2005
