Here's a little humorous thing I wrote in response to this.
Special Report From Heaven:
When word reached the Church Triumphant that Jorge Cardinal Medina Estevez would be celebrating the Mass of Ages in the Jesuit mother church in Rome, there was much rejoicing and praise sung in honor of the Most Holy Trinity. Among the loudest in this celebration were a certain group of saints, including St. Ignatius Loyola, St. Francis Xavier, St. Robert Bellarmine, St. Aloysius Gonzaga, St. Edmund Campion, St. Issac Jogues, and Blessed Miguel Pro.
;-)
Catholic ping!
A traditional Mass at the most important Jesuit Church in the world.
Next thing you know, some Jesuit might even say he believes in the Resurrection. Things are getting crazy.
Did you see my little story in the poster's comment box?
LOL!
I'm glad you liked it. ;-)
??? I thought Cardinal Castrillon Hoyos was the President of PCED.
Whoops, you're right! I got them mixed up.
Do you suppose this lends more credence and/or is an effort to "prepare" the Church for the supposed document to be issued on 11/19?
One can only hope
and pray!
Last time around, at St. Mary Major, he celebrated a TLM on a Saturday morning. This time, it's on a Sunday (i.e. when many more people will show up to Mass).
It truly is one of the most beautiful churches in Rome - and that is saying a lot.
Introit: The Lord saith: I think thoughts of peace, and not of affliction: you shall call upon Me, and I will hear you; and I will bring back your captivity from all places (Jer. 29. 11, 12, 14)
Gradual/Alleluia: Thou hast delivered us, O Lord, from them that afflict us: and hast put them to shame that hate us. V.: In God we will glory all the day: and in Thy Name we will give praise for ever. (Ps. 43. 8, 9)
Alleluia, alleluia. V. (Ps. 129. 1, 2). From the depths I have cried to Thee, O Lord: Lord, hear my prayer. Alleluia. (Psalm also used in offertory.)
Communion: Amen I say to you, whatsoever you ask when you pray, believe that you shall receive and it shall be done to you. (Mark 11. 24)
Deo gratias! The Jesuits didn't wreckovate it!
I don't think they're legally allowed to.
You're right. The Italian government owns those churches, don't they!
OK, you're reading into this more deeply than I am...don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled about this. Sometimes (or most of the time) my analytical sense gets the better of me.
I would assume everything in the church, from the elaborately carved pews to the the reredos to the doors to the baldachin are considered legally protected historic treasures.
By the way, those Propers are sung on every Sunday from the 23rd. to the Last Sunday after Pentecost. A deeper "conspiracy" would be if this was done on the Last Sunday after Pentecost (Gospel from Matthew 24)! But, some will say that 11/19 (date of the document coming forth)being the day before the Last Sunday of the Church year is an omen too.
