PHILADELPHIA - A former Philadelphia-area priest accused of abusing more than a dozen girls and taking an 11-year-old he had raped for an abortion performed a baptism this summer weeks after he was defrocked.

Nicholas V. Cudemo performed the baptism at Christ the King Church in Haddonfield, N.J., on July 10, Camden diocese officials confirmed.

A recent Philadelphia grand jury report found that Cudemo had sexual relationships with girls from Catholic schools where he taught from the 1960s to the 1980s, molesting one girl in the confessional and invoking God to seduce the youngsters. The report focused on abusive priests in the Philadelphia archdiocese.

The vatican should have its own prison for these criminals who are out of the reach of civil law.

Out of reach of civil law? He should be in jail and should have been for years.

He should be in jail and should have been for years.

Statute of limitations has run out.

You can thank legislators, for putting a short statute of limitations on criminal prosecutions.

If there had been an emergency, anyone -- even a non-Catholic -- could have performed the baptism.

...molesting one girl in the confessional...

I wonder how much this happened when we had the confessionals of years ago. You know, the ones which had a door to your little box-like room which just had a kneeler. The priest had his own door. There was no way for him to get near you to molest you.

Maybe we should have those confessionals again???

My husband babptised our babies before we left the hospital after their births. He was taking no chances. Great peace of mind.

What did you do about baptismal certificates, if I may ask?

Well, um, we had them baptised in the church.

I know, I know, I know, you're not supposed to do that but, we took no chances.

Had he raped and then taken my daughter for an abortion he'd be dead.

I apologize for not asking that question in private. I usually try to avoid putting people on the spot, but that one just can of slipped out.

In any event, I urge you to take it up in confession if you have not already done so ... to avoid taking any chances ...

God bless, and have a great day!

Oh gosh, everyone knows.

This is no secret. We dealt with this years ago.

Thanks for your concern, just the same.

Such men should be given an opportunity for repentance and then they should be executed.

Obviously with no pangs of consicence .. sheesh.

And willing to dupe the baby's parents, too! Yikes.

A former Philadelphia-area priest accused of abusing more than a dozen girls and taking an 11-year-old he had raped for an abortion performed a baptism this summer weeks after he was defrocked.

-snip-

He said Cudemo performed the summer baptism at a family's request. Only later did the parish realize his status, Wallace said. The baptism remains valid, he said.

It seems amazing that the parents were completely unaware of his past, of his defrocking. But that's no excuse for him. He failed to disclose given his patterns of behavior.
